Rendering & look Experimental

Movie Render Queue: build and run offline cinematic render jobs from a Level Sequence.

What it's for

This namespace drives Unreal's Movie Render Queue, the offline pipeline that turns a Level Sequence into finished frames. You point it at a sequence, a map, and an optional quality preset; it queues a render job and then runs the whole queue with a movie pipeline executor, handing back a ticket you can watch until the render finishes.

Reach for it when you want production-grade, non-realtime output: a high-quality cinematic pass, an image sequence, or a batch of shots rendered while you do other work. It is the offline counterpart to live capture, so the frames come out clean rather than at viewport quality.

Author the sequence first through the sequencer namespace, then hand it here to render. If instead you only need to grab what is currently on screen without an offline render pass, use the render namespace for live-viewport capture rather than this one.

This area is experimental and still improving. It works today, but method and parameter shapes may change as it matures.

Examples

See which render presets exist

Before queuing anything, the assistant discovers the quality presets already in the project.

You: What Movie Render Queue presets do we have?

  call("mrq.list_presets", {})
    → {presets:["/Game/Cine/MRQ_HighQuality", "/Game/Cine/MRQ_Draft"]}

Done. Found two presets: MRQ_HighQuality and MRQ_Draft.

Queue a cinematic render job

The assistant builds one job from a sequence, a map, and a preset, ready to run.

You: Queue a high-quality render of the intro cutscene on the hangar map.

  call("mrq.create_job", {sequencePath:"/Game/Cine/LS_Intro",
        levelPath:"/Game/Maps/L_Hangar",
        presetPath:"/Game/Cine/MRQ_HighQuality",
        jobName:"Intro_HighQuality"})
    → {ok:true, queued:true}

Done. Queued Intro_HighQuality from LS_Intro on L_Hangar.

Run the queue and wait for it

Running the queue is long, so it returns a ticket the assistant polls until the render completes.

You: Render the queue and tell me when it's finished.

  call("mrq.run_jobs", {})
    → {status:"running", jobId:"mrq-7f21"}
  call("system.job_status", {jobId:"mrq-7f21"})
    → {status:"completed", exitStatus:"success"}

Done. Render finished: all queued jobs completed.
